2008 Quantifying Hydrologic Processes in a Central U.S. Prairie Ecosystem Undergoing Active Restoration

Period: March 1, 2008 - Present

Contact: Jason Hubbart

Objectives: Understanding the movement of surface and subsurface water in the prairie ecosystems of the Central US. The PFCA is charged with restoring its agricultural land to historic savannah and woodland ecosystems. However, little is known about hydrological regime of the PFCA watershed (e.g. timing and quantity of fresh water}, or what effects cure restoration activities are exacting on hydrological processes. Ultimately, little is understood about historic hydrologic regimes in the region. Thus, studies are warranted that will result in improved understanding and thus implantation of sound restoration activities as well as long-term effective management strategies in prairie ecosystems.
